My Grandfather was in the 1st Engineers. His name was Francis J. Roderer. He was born in St. Johnsbury, VT in 1892. He enlisted October 31, 1913. He served in the Mexican Campaign and Punitive Expedition. He subsequently went to OCS at Fort Leavenworth and was commissioned April 1, 1918. I have his original commissioning certificate on my wall. I'm not sure his exact deployment date overseas. I do have a postcard he sent to his mother but there is no date on it. He served in Germany with the Army of Occupation through 1919.

I served with the first Engineers, from 84-86. Participated in Reforger, as well as numerous "vacations" to the Mohave. I have been looking for a Michael Campbell from Iowa that I had served with. Any help would be appreciated. " Through these doors, pass the best combat Engineers in the world". Anyone remember that sign above Charlie company's doorway to the barracks?
